About the role
We are seeking an experienced Progress Database Administrator for a short-term migration project (contract length: 2–3 months). The role focuses on upgrading an unsupported Progress DB version, preparing the environment for AWS, and maintaining data synchronization until final application cutover. You will assess the current Progress environment, execute the upgrade with minimal downtime, and design/implement a data synchronization strategy between on-premises Progress and Progress running on AWS EC2. The project involves managing approximately 2 TB of data transfer while ensuring consistency and performance. Collaborate with application teams to validate functionality, support cutover planning and execution, and deliver clear documentation of upgrade and migration steps, including rollback plans. Engagement is full-time, project-based; work mode is remote or on-site depending on candidate availability.
Requirements
- Hands-on Progress DB administration and upgrades experience.
- Proven experience in database migration projects (preferably involving AWS).
- Knowledge of AWS EC2, storage, and networking concepts.
- Experience handling large datasets (1–5 TB) and managing ~2 TB data transfers with synchronization/replication tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot performance and compatibility issues during migration.
- Experience planning and supporting final cutover and migration execution.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, including preparing rollback plans.
